Overnight Successes Never Are. You just didn’t notice the work.

I heard a statement the other day that caught my attention…

Overnight successes never are.  You just didn’t notice the work they were doing to build it.

That statement couldn’t be any more true.  How committed are you to being successful in real estate or in any business, for that matter?  In order to be successful in your business, you first need the mindset of someone who intends to succeed and be willing to persist. Success doesn’t come overnight, no matter how lucky you are, so you need to be ready to put in the extra work it takes to get ahead.

First, you need to be consistent.  By consistent I mean regular client contacts, creating a “brand” and ensuring that your service is something that clients can rely on.  Create checklists if you need to so you can ensure your service is the same each time.  I love that I can go into any Starbucks and will walk out with an almost identical experience each time.  I know exactly what my coffee will taste like, I know what products I can purchase and I am almost guaranteed the same experience and service.  I strive to create that consistency for all of my clients.  They should come to expect a luxury service treatment from me and they will receive it each and every time.  With our busy lives, who has time to waste on the “what if”?

Second, be available.  This may be obvious but if a client can’t get a hold of you quickly, they will move on to someone else.  Remember to check your phone, your email, whatever it is that ties you to clients regularly.

Third, develop your niche.  No matter what product or service you are selling, figure out who it is you want to work with and target that market.  I know that I can not service everyone adequately and I don’t try.  Besides, do you really want to work with everyone?  Figure out what you enjoy and specialize in that.

Once you can create a good base with consistent service, availability and a true niche, your success will skyrocket.  Best of luck in whatever business you decide to pursue!  Just remember, overnight successes never are, you just didn’t notice the work they were doing to build it.
